This time, we travel to the lagoon city, Venice, and are greeted by enchanting sounds. Thomas More described this place as a utopia in his book with the same title, published in 1516. It was utopian to imagine that human labor could raise a city made of stone with some of the most beautiful art in the world from waters that were constantly changing and never tamed. It was not because, but perhaps even despite, a society that was utopian in the past. It seems impossible to imagine that Venice's proud history and historic buildings can be preserved in this day and age, given the challenges of climate change, mass tourism and other political issues.
