IICA TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Training Program

The Institute of Instrumentation, Control and Automation (IICA) offers the internationally recognized TÜV Rheinland Functional Safety Training Program. The course focuses on compliance with the functional safety standard AS IEC 61511 Ed. 2, providing insights into functional safety concepts, industry standards, and methodologies for determining, implementing, and maintaining Safety Integrity Levels (SILs) in Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) for process industries.

• Target Audience: Automation and control design maintenance engineers, safety and risk engineers with SIS experience, and engineers from non-process industries seeking process industry functional safety knowledge.
• Course Objectives: Participants will learn to participate in LOPA and SIL determination studies, evaluate SIF design for SIL compliance, select SIF architecture to minimize spurious trips, and select SIF components to meet target SIL.
• Facilitator: Peter Kroon, a seasoned functional safety professional with over 30 years of experience across process, oil and gas, mining, and manufacturing industries.
• Certification: Qualified participants who pass the exam receive the FS Engineer (TÜV Rheinland) certificate, valid for 5 years. Requirements include 3 years of practical experience and an engineering degree.
