The 13th Itechmer Exhibition of Innovations in the Fishing Sector is taking place until Friday. Discussions will focus on innovation, but also Brexit.
This Wednesday in Lorient the 13th Itechmer Show opens. It is a show for professionals who work in fishing. More than 7,000 people are expected to attend the show.
There will be a question about Brexit in 15 days if there is no agreement. Maurice Benoish explains that the show's president will not just talk about Brexit, even if the event has an impact on fishing. "Fishing is here and will be there tomorrow, even after Brexit. We know nothing about Brexit. What are the real consequences? "We will hold a conference with the President of the Region on this subject.".
British fishermen fish in European waters.
Olivier Le Nezet, president of the Regional Fisheries Committee said that 60% of European resources is fished in British waters. Maurice Benoish continues, "But British fisherman also fish in European water." "Fishing agreements with the UK will have to be negotiated in Europe, so we won't know anything about it.".
Itechmer, above all, is a show about innovation: "The latest developments are on energy saving and fishing equipment with selective gear. Let the small fish survive. We can use larger meshes by using selectivity to protect the resource. We can also see how quickly it replenishes. The meshes are larger and have less resistance to the water. So, this is going in the correct direction. "_.
