Lake Hernando Dragon Boat Festival

The Lake Hernando Dragon Boat Festival, now known as "The Beast of the Southeast," is one of the largest international dragon boat events in the country. Held each fall at scenic Lake Hernando Park, this high-energy event brings together over 5,000 paddlers, spectators and vendors from across Florida and the Southeast.

Race Day

Teams compete in thrilling 300-meter races throughout the day, while on shore festivalgoers enjoy a vibrant atmosphere filled with local food vendors, artisan booths, live music and cultural performances.

Organization

The festival is hosted by the Citrus County Education Foundation and helps raise vital funds for educational programs and student success in Citrus County. Team entry includes a free practice session with all necessary equipment — boat, paddles, life-vests, a drum and a steersperson/coach. Two team options are available: 20-person teams (Club/Community) and 10-person Mini Dragon Boat teams.
