The Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association, or SLMA, is a group that helps companies in the southeastern United States. They have 84 member companies that operate over 130 locations from Texas to Maryland. These companies include sawmills, lumber treaters, and manufacturers that make different types of wood products. They also have a big job keeping the industry running smoothly. Their mills provide jobs for more than 13,000 people, and many more jobs depend on the lumber industry in rural areas. The members manage over 2 million acres of forestland, making sure the trees are taken care of and used wisely. Visiting such an event can give you a better understanding of how important forests and wood products are to our daily lives, and how people work hard to keep the industry healthy and sustainable.
